STEM Education for a Better Environment
Our purpose is to promote education in Australia with an emphasis on the Natural Environment and to foster an increased awareness and competence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Our aim is to raise awareness of engineering amongst teachers and their students in years 5-8, and to provide schools, particularly rural and remote schools, with the resources and ongoing support to allow their students to pursue and then successfully complete an engineering degree.
The AustSTEM Foundation supports the Education Council's National STEM School Education Strategy.
The STEM journey begins in Primary school, and this is the starting point for the design of our resources and training programmes.
The AustSTEM Foundation is committed to raising Engineering awareness and STEM literacy in Australian classrooms
In the real world, engineers don’t solve problems through the prism of each individual discipline. They seek out and appreciate the contribution of all disciplines, including the humanities. That is what STEM seeks to bring into the classroom.
STEM without Engineering is like an orchestra without a conductor!
AustSTEM has supported ATSE in organising education pipeline speakers and coordinating the programme for their 2023 Symposium on Engineering Education: Can a crisis be avoided?
Raising the awareness of engineering amongst our younger generation, their teachers, their parents, and their guardians will go a very long way to removing – or at least lowering – all the other barriers that exist in the engineering education supply line
We are prioritising these key topics
Climate Change & Decarbonisation
Educating students in the causes and effects of anthropomorphic climate change, and equipping them with the STEM skills to understand and research methods for reducing carbon emissions.
The Water Cycle
Highlighting the importance of water resources, balancing human use with environmental needs, and equipping students with the STEM skills to diagnose, remedy and maintain a sustainable
Our teaching resources
AustSTEM Digital Learning Hub
This is the website hosting our teaching resources. They are not just lesson plans, but resources designed to enhance existing lesson plans and units with experiential technology based learning experiences.
They are a combination of tutorials, projects and lesson plans that can be searched from a single index page.
We are loaning kits
We have a limited number of kits that we can offer free on loan for limited periods. Priority will be given to schools in low socioeconomic and rural and regional areas.
